The paleo diet, favored by Jessica Biel, bans dairy, grains, legumes, refined sugar, and potatoes. Though some find success with this restrictive plan, dietitian Toby Amidor notes it can also eliminate vital nutrients by cutting entire food groups. While paleo aims to mimic ancient diets, modern nutritional science shows people need diverse foods for optimal health. Strict limitations may aid short-term weight loss but risk deficiencies from lack of key vitamins, minerals and fiber.
